The Candied Yam, Grand Rapids

The Candied Yam in Grand Rapids and Slap Shot Sandwiches in Negaunee have been in the news.

The Candied Yam and owner  Jessica Tyson were filmed for America’s Best Restaurants, a hugely popular online show. Tyson had pitched her soul food eatery – and Grand Rapids as a food town – before the pandemic. “Hey, you should highlight Grand Rapids,” said Tyson, recalling the submission. “We’ve got some amazing food here.”

But it was her commitment to community that put her over the top for the show.

“Yes, they’re a restaurant owner,” said Danyel Detomo, a host for the traveling road show. “But there’s also so much more to them.” Watch the Fox17 story here.

Slap Shot Sandwiches, Negaunee

Slap Shot Sandwiches was Restaurant of the Week on TV3 UpNorthMatters, and there were lots of shout-outs to other area businesses Slap Shot is partnering with, including offering gluten-free bread from Honey Baked Bread Co. Owner Jaquelyn Lambert also talks about the historic building the sandwich shop is in, plus hints at extended hours!

Slap Shot Sandwiches not only use locally made bread, but produce from Partridge Creek Farms and eggs from Cloverfield Farms in Skandia. Yes, eggs. Slap Shot Sandwiches is open for breakfast and you don’t want to miss it! Watch now!
